Sometimes, I am just not in the mood to be very productive. That was the case last night. It was a free night … and I had plenty of things that needed to be worked on. However, I have learned the hard way that it is not wise to push my self at times when I don’t feel particularly “up” to the challenges ahead. I usually have to re-do whatever I make when working with less than tip top motivation. Consequently, at such times, I have learned to take a break and do something that requires very little thinking or effort. So, last night, I just put everything on hold and did a bit of fill-in hooking.

When I started this simple pattern, several weeks ago, I hooked almost everything but about half of the dark background. As it is being done with 1″ wide strips, it went pretty fast. Since the little dab of fill-in left to do did not call for too much creativity, it was a good thing to work on while I listened to a book on my iPod. With a minimal amount of effort (which was about all I had to give) I at least felt like I accomplished something, particularly since I want to take this with me when I head to the mid-west in a couple of weeks. I intend to do the fringe when I am visiting with my mother – another good time to have a mindless project.
Besides fill-in hooking, I did do a bit of analysis on the project. The dark gold tweed in the corners needs to be changed out with either the magenta or the dark background wool. The fringe will probably be changed as well … but I was too tired last night to pick out which color that should be. You have to draw the line somewhere … and just stop!

Hi Gene,
I’m a little curious about the fringe you mention in this project. Where in the design is the fringe? And you mention adding more; where will that be? The concept of fringe in rug hooking is new to me.

Diane – Notice, at the top, that I have some magenta pieces sticking out? I am prodding fringe, top side, as I hook this project. Have only done a bit of magenta and will change to another color. If you are interested, I can try to describe it down the road. I do have a video on the process in my Internet Rug Camp, if you are interested. GRS
