Over the weekend I received a double email from Chris Friedman and Laura Pierce concerning  an additional Rug Rave event that will take place  this coming Saturday, November 21, in Petaluma, California.

Laura, along with her mother Emma Webber (both recently featured on this blog) will be hosting a hook-in at Emma’s house (also the location of Laura’s studio) from 10AM to 3 PM.  If you were intrigued with the twenty something rugs that I showed over 3 days on this blog, you ought to go out of your way to stop in to look at the other 100+ pieces on display in the two studios!  Laura says:  Bring your lunch – Emma and I will provide tea and desert. Laura has also decided to provide wool blindfolds for those who want to participate in the hooking blind experience.  All of this is to highlight the work that Heather Ritchie is doing in Gambia to teach blind people how to support themselves through rug hooking.  Heather’s Rug Aid is a non-profit organization that is making a real difference for the families involved with this program.

Chris has entered into the spirit of the day by donating a project that she recently finished, as a raffle rug to raise money for Rug Aid.  For a $5 donation to Rug Aid, sent to Chris, you can have a chance to win this lovely piece.

Although I could not get the photo of Chris’ finished Prodded Fall Runner to print bigger, it’s the full size of the free pattern in the proddy book.  If this photo looks a bit familiar, it might be due to the fact that you saw me dye the wool for the Indian Corn on this blog, as well as watch Chris’ progress at the Wine Country Rug Hookers fall workshop in Sonoma County.   In other words, blog readers have been nearly as involved with the making of  this piece as Chris!   If you have been reading about the Rug Rave, but don’t have a place close enough to attend, you can still participate with the purchase of as many tickets as you would like.  And, since Chris won’t actually have the drawing until December 12, you have plenty of time to send in your contribution. Chris will be collecting all contributions up until drawing time on the 12th, then make a lump sum donation to Rug Aid.

If you are interested in a chance on this lovely little prodded rug, send your donation, in $5 increments and contact information to:

Chris Friedman,  833 Rancho Way,  Petalum, CA 94954.  Once she receives a donation, a ticket will filled out in the name of the donor and dropped in the box until the drawing on December 12.  (Make checks payable to Chris Friedman.)  I’ll keep you posted as to how much money this mat brings for rug Aid.

Now, I better get back to dyeing my blind folds as I don’t have enough for the Orange County Rug Rave … after I send my donation to Chris.
