Yesterday was the First Saturday Hook-In at the Harbor House in Anaheim, CA. We had a nice mixture of works being hooked and completed rugs to show off! This piece was completed since our last session.
Here is an other Show and Tell item.
If you are a regular reader, you may recognize this rug from previous First Saturday posts. However, since nearly all that is left to do is the border, I hope to show the completed version next month. The artist and I did spend some time picking out wool for the border so there is nothing to stop her now!
The making of this pattern from a photograph was discussed in detail on previous blog posts. It’s rather fun to be able to watch a rug grow from idea to finished work. Of course, we do have a ways to go before this one is completely done.
Although everyone works on whatever they want to do, I do provide a short, optional mini-class every month. Yesterday’s session was on hooking with very wide cuts. This particular example was hooked with a #12 (1 inch wide) and the other piece I used to demonstrate was being made with a #10 cut. While most of the things being show in my demonstration had been covered in a recent article I wrote for RHM, rug hooking techniques always look different in person as opposed to reading about them.
This one will be ready for next Halloween.
Lots of good rugs – lots of good conversation – lots more to cover in tomorrow’s post about First Saturday in Anaheim.
