The latest edition of Rug Hooking Magazine just arrived at my house. While I am always glad to get a new issue, I was particularly looking forward to receiving this one as it contains a report on this blog’s International Blog Hook-In.
In case you are a new reader, this Hook-In started on this site last January as a way of giving our readers an opportunity to hook something together. Utilizing a free pattern from RHM was the perfect way of getting everyone the same page … or on the same pattern. I won’t go over all the details of that event as it is covered in both the magazine article, as well as in nearly 60 blog posts in the Blog Hook-In ‘09 category listed to the right of this screen.
I am very pleased with the way the article turned out, specifically given the space limitations of the magazine – but then, how could we possibly expect to have enough space to report on all the work of 80+ people over a 4 month period? Nevertheless, RHM did a great job and printed more photos than they usually would for an article like this. There is a good variety of “process and finished” shots. As usual, I submitted more photos than they asked for, then lobbied to get in as many extras as we could. Of course, the art department at Stackpole (parent company of RHM) makes the final decisions on such things.
I think you will agree with me that the 8 page, 17 photo layout is a good tribute to everyone who participated in the blog project whether your photos were in the article or not. To everyone of you to whom that applies - Thank You for all the effort you put in to this project. Regular readers of this site probably won’t find too much in the article that they don’t know or haven’t seen on this blog. However, it’s just awfully nice to see it in print! All of you did a great job. It also allows our blog hook-in to keep going as your story will, doubtless, inspire others to hook for years to come.
Now, all that’s left to do is figure out what we need to do for the next International Blog Hook-In.

What a wonderful job you did on the article. And of course your photography is so great……We all know how valuable your time is and appreciate it so much…
I am sure on the next one you will be flooded with students on the blog after seeing this article…..
I have just recently made up a pattern called Rainbow Bridge..It is a picture that I got out of the Humane Society leaflet and received permission to use…….It is something I am going to use as a gift to any friends and family members that have recently lost a close pet……..It has a story with it…..V. I am continually amazed with how your Blog has helped to bring the internatinal rug hooking community together AND have kept them together. This is certainly a testimony of the committment we have as fiber artists. With so many artists out there I feel sure you’ll have no problem getting ideas for the next Blog hook-in. Thank you Gene and to all contributors. Jo
