It’s a pleasure to announce that Susan Quicksall, from Oglesby, Texas, will be joining our fine roster of teachers at the 2010, Cambria Pines Rug Camp. (For flier and registration form, go to the Cambria button on the website.)
While new to Cambria, she is certainly no stranger to rug hooking or various other needle arts, as she is an accomplished fiber artist with over 25 years experience.
As owner of Holly Hill Designs, she also produces her own line of rug patterns and hand-painted needlepoint designs. Her areas of special interest are with shaded primitives, samplers, pictorials and folk art. I think she has a particular gift for selecting balanced color combinations.
Her work has been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine, The American Profile Magazine, ATHA Newsletter, and A Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs X, XI and XII. She is an Accredited McGown Teacher.
While I was first drawn to her work because of those tailored samplers, her more primitive designs are equally intriguing.
Although Cambria is an open camp – a camp where students can usually do which ever pattern they choose in any given class – we are making an exception for Susan’s class. Students registering for this class will need to do one of Susan’s patterns. However, that should not be a problem as she has many styles (and sizes) of patterns from which to pick. Students are still free to bring their own wool or have her color plan their project.
Just looking at her samples …
… the hard part of a class with Susan Quicksall will be narrowing down just one pattern to do!
If you are interested in attending Cambria Pines Rug Camp, June 6-11, 2010, fliers and registration forms are available for down load at my website. www.geneshepherd.com Registration is now open, so send in your deposit today!

How nice to see Susan’s feature today! I took my first class and learned how to hook rugs from her a few years ago here in Texas. She is a great teacher and a joy to work with….and her designs are wonderful! Those who are taking a class from her at Cambria are very fortunate!
